Terms of Service

The fine print, kept kind.

1. About these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Izaan Hussain, an individual developer based in the United Arab Emirates ("I", "me"), who provides the Lookhound desktop app (the "app") and the website at lookhound.spools.studio (the "site"), together "Lookhound". By downloading, installing or using Lookhound you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Lookhound.

2. Who can use Lookhound

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to use Lookhound. If you are under 18, or under the age of legal capacity where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms for you. If you use Lookhound for an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these Terms on its behalf.

3. Your licence

Lookhound is free. Its source code is released under the MIT Licence, which lets you use, copy, modify and distribute the code under that licence's conditions. These Terms govern your use of the app and site as provided by me; where they conflict with the MIT Licence regarding the source code itself, the MIT Licence prevails.

4. Third-party components

The app downloads and uses AI models and includes software made by others, each under its own licence, including CLIP (MIT Licence), all-MiniLM-L6-v2 (Apache Licence 2.0), Jina Embeddings v2 Base Code (Apache Licence 2.0), Qt for Python (LGPL 3.0), and the Instrument Serif and Geist typefaces (SIL Open Font Licence 1.1). Your use of those components is also subject to their licences. I don't control third-party services such as Hugging Face, GitHub, Vercel or Cloudflare and am not responsible for them.

5. Your files and your responsibility

The app reads the folders you choose so you can search them. It does not change, move, upload or delete your files. You are responsible for the files on your computer, for having the right to access them, for the folders you ask Lookhound to read, and for keeping backups. Search results are suggestions produced by AI models and may be incomplete or inaccurate.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Lookhound to break any law; to access, search or index files, devices or accounts you are not authorised to use; to infringe anyone's rights; to try to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or the services it relies on; or to distribute a modified version of the app in a way that suggests it is the official Lookhound or is endorsed by me.

7. Names and branding

The source code is open, but the Lookhound name, logo and the design of the site are not licensed to you under the MIT Licence. Please don't use them in a way that suggests your product or modified version is Lookhound or is endorsed by me.

8. Updates and availability

The app checks for new versions and may download and install updates. Updates may add, change or remove features. I may change, suspend or stop offering the app or the site at any time, without notice and without liability to you.

9. No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lookhound is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, non-infringement, or that Lookhound will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, files, profits, revenue, business or goodwill, arising out of or related to Lookhound or these Terms, however caused and even if I was told such loss was possible. Because Lookhound is provided free of charge, my total liability for all claims relating to it is limited to one hundred UAE dirhams (AED 100). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

11. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold me harmless from claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of Lookhound.

12. Ending these Terms

You can stop using Lookhound at any time by uninstalling the app and deleting its folder. If you seriously breach these Terms, your permission to use Lookhound ends automatically. Sections 4, 5, 7 and 9 to 16 continue to apply after these Terms end.

13. Export and sanctions

You may not use, download or export Lookhound in violation of any applicable export control or sanctions laws.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising from them or from Lookhound, are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. The competent courts of the United Arab Emirates have exclusive jurisdiction. Before bringing any claim, please contact me at contact@lookhound.spools.studio so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days. If you are a consumer, you also keep any mandatory protections given to you by the laws of the country where you live.

15. General

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and me about Lookhound. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If I don't enforce a right, that isn't a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; I may transfer mine to anyone who takes over Lookhound. If these Terms are translated, the English version prevails.

16. Changes to these Terms

I may update these Terms from time to time. I'll post the new version here with a new effective date and, for significant changes, give notice on the site or in the app. Continuing to use Lookhound after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
